Playing with history

with your family

Lift the mystery about Ars and Trévoux, and discover places brimming with history!

At Trévoux, begin your discovery with Eugène, who will reveal the town’s secrets! This little character from the Family Playbook offers a fun-filled family visit with questions, observations and riddles of all kinds (From age 6. Available from the tourist office).

Want more? Don’t leave without conquering the Château-fort de Trévoux! Slip into the shoes of a knight as you try on helmets and pieces of armor, then climb up to watch for enemies from the octagonal tower and discover a breathtaking view!

In Ars, drive through the village center for an immersive visit to the Musée de Cire. Discover the life of Jean Marie Vianney, a little man as big as the universe! A museum signed Grévin that retraces the great moments of his life through 17 scenes and 35 characters. Along the way, you and the kids can discover monumental nuggets such as the Basilique Saint-Sixte, the Chapelle du Cœur, the Maison du Curé and the semi-souterraine Eglise Notre-Dame-de-la-Miséricorde, thanks to the children’s tour booklet (From age 6. Available from the tourist office).

Tip: for your snack break, consider the Parc de Cibeins, where you can enjoy a family picnic and a digestive stroll around the park before resuming your cultural adventure! The Ars bakery sells excellent sandwiches of all kinds, as well as delicious desserts. For a snack, don’t miss the Glaces Rimo store, open in season, offering artisanal ice creams made locally by a farm in the Dombes region.

Looking for a little adventure

by bike

Travel the Voie Bleue with your family, a barrier-free, gradient-free itinerary that’s accessible to families, even with the little ones in a trailer. From the Metropolis of Lyon, the route, is entirely safe between Neuville and Mâcon with a few rare and short exceptions. It runs alongside the Saône River in a bucolic setting, offering panoramic views of a number of fine châteaux and the Beaujolais mountains. The perfect opportunity to discover the life of the bargemen in the exhibition rooms of the Maison Eclusière in Parcieux, or simply to quench your thirst there; or to eat an organic ice cream at the bicycle café La Roue Libre in Trévoux.
