Trévoux Château

  • Trévoux Château was built in the late 13th century by the Lords of Thoire and Villars to protect the town and show their power. The octagonal dungeon has superb views of the River Saône, Monts d'Or, Beaujolais and La Dombes.

  • The presence of a river toll and the town's geopolitical location meant a stone fortress had to be built in the late 13th century. The Saône marked the border between the French Kingdom (right bank) and the Holy Roman Empire (left bank).
